LENEXA, KANSAS (July 13, 2009) Instead of sitting on their laurels, waiting for the economy to improve, AGES-online decided to continue on with their plans to evolve their web-based family tree builder in 2009. They have just added the ability for their Standard package subscribers to create a personalized website and gave a sneak preview of the new offering at the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Conference in Raleigh, NC.

This release provides a website with a variety of pages from which a subscriber can choose, such as a Bibliography, About Me and more. It also provides the subscriber the ability to display an outline tree, Family Stories and photos/images attached to details, sources and citations.

"We are very proud of this release," said Ken Aubuchon, Chief Executive Officer. "Not only does the personalized website provide our customers with the ability to show off their research, but it can also help engage family members in the research itself."

With point and click technology, the Standard package subscribers can build their own personalized website. For example: http://jones.thru-the-ages.net can be their web address. On the site, subscribers can show off their family information as well as personally selected facts and details surrounding each ancestor with a professional flair.

"We believe that the personalized website can promote more family involvement in genealogy research," said Ken Aubuchon. "As family members read about their ancestors’ experiences on the website, they will become more excited about participating in the exploration."

LENEXA, KANSAS (March 24, 2009) AGES-online has just released a new and improved GEDCOM import process. It provides a state of the art status, greatly enhanced performance and increased abilities on extra large files.

The new GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunication) process provides a real-time status with record counts and percent complete. The performance has been greatly enhanced by at least twofold. Large files of five megabytes or greater are uploaded and processed in the background with a status message informing the customer and freeing them to continue working on the site in any way imaginable. The customer is informed via e-mail of the import completion.

"I was once told, 'If it ain't broke, don’t fix it.' My response is that if it's not perfect, it's broken," said Ken Aubuchon, Chief Executive Officer. "We are always striving to improve our service in any way possible whether it's performance or enhanced capabilities."

The real-time status is what makes this new process stand out. As the file is processed, an ongoing count of records in the file is presented, and then a real-time percent complete status is provided as the file loads into the database.

"Providing real-time status on the internet is not as easy as it may sound," said Ken Aubuchon. "You must balance system performance with status messaging as well as overcome the less than adequate internet technologies. We have reached that balance with this new process."

LENEXA, KANSAS (September 22, 2008) AGES-online has just released an amazing new collaboration tool for connecting across the miles! Now subscribers can assign unique usernames and passwords to family and friends with whom they wish to collaborate.

Previously, subscribers had to give out their personal username and password if they wanted to work with others. The new capability now allows the account owner to assign usernames and passwords to family and friend. Simply click on the "Manage Users" link in the "My Account" menu and begin adding as many users as you wish. There is no limit to the number of users a subscriber can assign.

"We’re listening to our customers," said Ken Aubuchon, Chief Executive Officer. "We have received numerous e-mails from our customers asking for a way to collaborate easily with family, while still maintain their security, and we’ve delivered. Not only have we introduced the User Management tool, but we’ve made performance improvements to the Edit Details pages."

What really makes this tool unique is the account owner has the ability to manage the level of access each username has. They can grant or limit the editing permissions of each username independently. For example, allow one user to delete data and restrict that same capability from another user. Additionally, each record will display a "Change Stamp" which identifies who made the change and when. A new "Account Activity" report is also available to the account owner, located in the My Account menu.

"The greatest advantage of an internet based family tree builder is the ability to collaborate across the country or around the world,” said Ken Aubuchon. “We’re going to continue to introduce capabilities which promote collaboration as well as other technologies that leverage the internet."

LENEXA, KANSAS (May 19, 2008) AGES-online unveils exceptional Source and Citation screens. With new and improved, easy-to-follow templates, a user can quickly add repositories, sources and citations independently or all on one screen.

The new screens are much more convenient to use and easier to navigate than other program in the market. There is now a new Master Source Repository List to complement the existing Master Source List, both of which are located in the Edit menu. The researcher can add a new Source Repository or select an existing one on the Master Source screen. Likewise, you can add or select Sources and Repositories on the citation screens.

"This was a very extensive project," said Ken Aubuchon, Chief Executive Officer. "We spent many hours researching various citation styles keeping one thing in mind, the intent behind citing our findings: providing the right information so others can find the source later and judge your conclusions."

The entire concept of providing templates for sources and citations really sets AGES-online ahead of other genealogy programs. Now the user just enters the data, leaving the formatting to the software.

"We believe that the next step for sources and citations is to build a consortium to create the true standard by which all genealogists will follow," said Ken Aubuchon. "Many genealogists believe that the book, 'Evidence Explained', by Elizabeth Shown Mills is the standard, but that’s not really the case. As she indicates in her book there are numerous citation styles used in various fields, although none meet the needs of genealogical researchers working with original historical documents. Her intent was to provide ‘models’ for citing different types of sources as well as to provide a guideline to evaluate the merit of various sources in relationship to the conclusions."

LENEXA, KANSAS (March 13, 2008) AGES-online has just released an all new Genealogical Data Communication (GEDCOM) file export process. Subscribers can generate a GEDCOM file containing all of their own family data and transfer that file to their computer.

The new GEDCOM process can be accessed only by paying subscribers through their password protected account using the side File menu. No one other than the password holder can access the subscribers’ data or download that data to a GEDCOM file.

"We take our subscribers’ privacy very seriously here at AGES-online," said Ken Aubuchon, Chief Executive Officer. "We want to make sure that they have control over their data and who has access to it. We will never compromise that trust."

The new GEDCOM export process is fully compliant with the GEDCOM Standard Release 5.5, unlike many off-the-shelf packages currently in distribution today. The standard was created by the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to facilitate the open communication of computerized genealogy data.

"Genealogy software is very complex to write and the GEDCOM standards reflect that complexity." said Ken Aubuchon. "That is why there are so many Family Tree software packages that have their own interpretation of the standards. By following the standards, we are ensuring the integrity of our customers’ data."
